How to extract camcorder dvd tape to an actual dvd without the actual camcorder? Possible to do myself?

I have the actual DVD tapes from a camcorder. However, the camcorder was stolen a few months ago. Is it still possible to convert the tapes to a DVD using my computer, but without a camcorder? Any tricks? Neither do I have the money to afford a new camcorder nor a professional service to do it for me. Am I screwed? Please help! Thanks so much!
